In general:

Rhinoplasty is an operation performed to change the appearance of the nose (for any reason such as aesthetic purposes, posttraumatic or congenital deformities etc.) and/or to facilitate breathing by eliminating some breathing difficulties.

How are rhinoplasty surgeries performed, which methods are used?

Closed or open technique may be preferred according to the examination results. Nasal deformities, skin texture and thickness, airway problems and previous operations are evaluated before the operation and the type of the operation is planned accordingly. Although, it is said that it can be carried out under general, local or sedation anesthesia, the first (general anesthesia) is preferred in our clinic.

Which is better? Closed or open method?

It will be more accurate to choose the technique according to the examination result and the procedure to be performed. It is unscientific to fully defend one of these two techniques and regard the other as unnecessary. However, a significant number of plastic surgeons prefer the open method to be able to take more accurate steps visually, to place the cartilages more accurately, and to better determine the symmetry of the structures in cases where there is significant structural curvature in the nose and breathing problems.

What are the latest trends in rhinoplasty surgeries?

Currently, the nasal ridge that was taken excessively, and the tip of the nose that was raised too high are not accepted as a good result. It is scientifically accepted today to protect the cartilages as much as possible to keep the airway open. while taking the back of the nose, and even to add cartilages to prominent places to further relieve the airway.

How long is the hospital stay after rhinoplasty?

You stay in the hospital for 0 to 1 day.

Will there be any scars after rhinoplasty surgery?

Since there will be no skin incision in the close rhinoplasty technique, no visible scar is expected. In open surgery, there is an incision on the skin of the columella that will fade away with time leaving a barely visible trace in most of the cases. It should be noted that scarring depends on the thickness of the skin (thick skin can leave more scars than thin skin), gender, genetic background and whether the sutures are placed correctly and aesthetically.

Is pain felt when removing the nasal packing after rhinoplasty?

Tubes made of silicone material have been offered recently. With these materials, the possibility of pain and infection is reduced to minimum levels. The patient can breathe after surgery and is extremely easy to remove.

How often should the follow-ups be after rhinoplasty surgery?

Generally, on the 5th – 7th days, the sutures, the nasal splint and the silicone rod inside the nose are removed and the tapes on the back of the nose are changed. Therefore, 1-2 office visits are usually sufficient in the first 10 days. So, our patients coming from out of town or abroad for surgery must stay in the city for at least 1 week after the operation.

How long does it take for the nose to take its final shape after rhinoplasty?

Most of the edema goes away, but it may take up to 1 year for the nose to take its final shape.

Does the nose tip drop after a while after rhinoplasty?

In the early postop period, swelling and tampon-rod cause overelevation of the nasal tip. The tip comes to normal position within several months as the oedema relieves. This is what is called a nose drop among people.

What are the risks of rhinoplasty surgery?

It should be noted that every surgical intervention carries a risk. There are also separate risks specific to rhinoplasty. Among them are persistence difficulty in breathing, permanent numbness in and around the nose, discoloration or long-term swelling and asymmetric nostrils. In these cases, the need for revision may arise.

Rhinoplasty surgery prices vary according to the experience of the team performing the surgery, the operation method and the hospital where the surgery is performed.

Please keep in mind that

The need for a second operation (revision) may arise for any reason after the operation. In scientific research, this rate is around 5-10%.

Our operations are performed by double Aesthetic Surgery board certified Prof. Dr. Omer Refik Ozerdem under sterile conditions in hospitals with full-fledged operating rooms.
