CHIN AUGMENTAION WITH IMPLANT
In general:
Jaw implants are small prostheses that are molded to fit the patient's chin. They are used in posterior position of the chin (retrogenia). They are made of silicone or similar biologically compatible materials in different sizes and shapes. Polyethylene implants (fixed with titanium screws) are preferred in our clinic due to their high durability and compatibility features. The implant is placed just above the chinbone. In this way, the chin tip is reshaped and augmented. Thanks to this process, the disproportion in the face due to retrogenia is balanced. Genioplasty should be taken into consideration when face-neck lifting and/or rhinoplasty are planned.
How is the surgery performed, which methods are used?
Chin augmentation with an implant is a surgical procedure that takes about 45-60 minutes and is performed under local or general anesthesia. In our clinic, an incision made under the chin is preferred. A 2 cm long incision is made, and the bone is exposed with dissection. The implant is placed and fixed by titanium screw(s). The incision is closed with aesthetic sutures.
What is the length of the hospital stay after chin implant surgery?
You stay in the hospital for 0 to 1 day.
Will there be any scars after chin implant surgery?
The scar looks red and hard in texture during the early postop period. It fades away and softens with time and is hidden under the chin.
What should I expect after the surgery?
It is important to stay away from heavy activities and an active lifestyle for a few weeks after the surgery. Special bands are used to help relief of oedema and kept in place for 7-10 days. In safe hands, it is almost impossible to understand that a person has undergone jaw implant surgery after the healing period.
How often should follow-ups be after chin implant surgery?
Follow-ups are scheduled on the 3rd and 7th days of the operation. Our patients who will come from out of town or abroad for the surgery are recommended stay in the city for at least 8 days after the operation.
Are the results of chin implant surgery permanent?
The implants are intended to be permanent and are prepared from materials with this feature. Although the aging process affects your facial appearance in other ways, your chin contour is not expected to change in the long term after the surgery.
What are the risks of chin implant surgery?
It should be noted that every surgical intervention carries a risk. Possible risks include infection, internal bleeding, implant slippage, lower lip sensation loss and side effects from anesthesia. However, there is very little risk of complications after chin implant surgeries if performed by a double certified specialist surgeon.
