The importance of eyebrow aesthetics cannot be denied due to the position of the eyebrows, which are the focal point in terms of facial expression and aesthetics, and their close distance with the eyelids. Forehead lift / eyebrow lift aesthetic operation is a surgical procedure performed to eliminate the symptoms that occur in the forehead area due to aging. It minimizes the creases that develop across the forehead or those that occur high on the bridge of the nose; it improves what are commonly referred to as frown lines; and finally, it raises the upper eyelids and repositions a low or sagging brow. The methods for forehead lifting can be classified as endoscopic, open, or combined.

Who should have forehead lift / eyebrow lift surgery?

Changes in the forehead, eyebrows and eye contours affect the expression of our face in a very meaningful way. The prominent lines between the eyebrows create a frowning eyebrow causing an angry and harsh expression. Eyebrow drooping and forehead lines are common aesthetic problems in middle-aged people. These complaints are indications for a forehead-eyebrow lifting surgery. Because of proximity to each other, all structures on the periorbital area (eyebrows, forehead and eyelids) should be addressed together during examination and operation. Forehead-eyebrow operations are often combined with upper eyelid aesthetics, eyelid fat injection, and face lift plastic surgery, thus aiming for a better harmony among different parts of the face.

How long does a forehead lift last? 

The results of a brow lift are long lasting. You should wait for several weeks and even months to see the full effects of surgery. However, it is important to remember that no surgery can stop the effects of ageing, and it will be up to the individual patient as to how long the results will be satisfactory to them. 

How long does forehead lift and/or eyebrow lift operations take, and what kind of anesthesia is given?

It takes 35 minutes with endoscopy and 1 hour with open-endoscopy combined surgery. These are operations performed under general or sedation anesthesia.

 How long is the hospital stay after forehead lift / eyebrow lift surgery?

If it is not combined with another operation, the hospital stay is generally 0-1 days.

What kind of techniques are applied in forehead lift / eyebrow lift surgery, how is it done?

It is a surgical application that aims the formation of a tighter tissue on the forehead and around the eyes. The eyebrows are elevated, and the deep lines of the forehead are improved, providing a more youthful and lively expression.

In endoscopic surgery, operations are performed with slit incisions on or behind the hairline, then the depressor eyebrow muscles are removed. In the open-endoscopic combination technique, an incision is made along the front hairline, the skin is elevated for a few centimeters, the mimic muscles are removed with an endoscope and grasper forceps, and finally the excess skin is removed. The incision may be planned behind the hairline (coronal incision) if the forehead hairline is very low.

How to decide whether to use endoscopic or open-endoscopic combined method?

In case of a slight-to-moderate eyebrow drooping and evident lines between the two eyebrows, generally only the endoscopic method is preferred. Open-endoscopic combination is preferred in severe horizontal lines on the forehead, prominent asymmetry and/or depression of the eyebrows.

What should I expect after my surgery? 
There may be bruising and swelling for a few days after the surgery. It is normal for these symptoms to last about 10 days. It is important to keep the head elevated for 1-2 weeks after the treatment, so that the formation of severe edema can be prevented. It is natural to feel numbness and itching at the incision sites and on the head during the healing process, this usually resolves within several months. Some temporary hair loss at the scar line is also normal.

How long will it be before I can get back to my normal life? 
A 7-8 night stay is recommended in Turkey following brow lift surgery. You may return to work after this time. Please keep in mind that you will see the results of your procedure some months later. 

Can a brow lift procedure be performed without scarring? 
All incisions leave a scar in surgery. However, due the location of the brow lift, scars are generally easy to conceal. By following your surgeon’s guidelines, in time the scars will fade and become less visible.
